Task 6

Task 6

1. Asa is an Independent regulator of advertising across a wide range of media in the UK ensuring ads are legal and apply advertising codes to make sure they’re okay to put on tv and other media platforms

2. Checking if the advert was covered by the Asa, call to inform your complaint and write or submit the complaint online then they will transfer you to someone who can handle your personal complaint and this will be further investigated, adjusted and reviewed and will hopefully resolve the issue.

3. & 4. It’s a banned Ford Spovoka Tv Advert ; Theres a pidgeon on a tree and it flys towards the car and the bonnet of the car hits it and the pidgeon dies.

5. It was banned because of animal rights and had a large amount of people protesting against it

6. Yes because most people don’t agree with animal cruelty and the advert encourages viewers to think that things like that are alright.

Task 5

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MXiJBp7HK5o

I think this advert is aimed at people aged 18 and over, so those who own a car. This is for a wide range of people aged over 18 because their no specific criteria in which the person has to be in. Because anyone over the age of 18 can own a car. This advert would fit into all the demographic groups because people in these groups can have a car. This appeal to everyone because of the slogan "we buy any car' which shows that the company buys any car which would interest everyone. Also in the advert it has loads of different kinds of people from different career backgrounds.

I think this advert is targeted to children, adults & the elderly. It appeals to people in a family because of the family in the advert singing about haribos. So this would be targeted to wide audience. This advert would fit all demographic groups because sweets are made for everyone and anyone that enjoys it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bl6LmTVZiIE&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fnai-gl.blogspot.com%2F&feature=player_embedded

Usually cheese string adverts are clearly advertised to children, although this advert is set on a beach impersonating bay watch, most grownups wouldn't eat it because it usually used in children's pack lunch boxes. So the target audience would be for children and possibly teenagers. The demographic group would be group E but specifically for students, children.

Advert Evaluation

Advert Evaluation

The advert me and my group created was one advertising Mac Make up. Mac is a popular brand used by women of different colours. Mac sells a range of different products, which we chose to advertise in our advert. The main products we advertised were lipstick, Lip-gloss and Fake Eyelashes.
In the beginning we have a close up shot that zooms out into a medium shot and then a long shot of Karina, which takes up to about 1-2 seconds. This shot was very stable. In the next few shots its Karina walking down the road. We edited the colours so that everything in the background was black and white and Karina in blue to show that she stands out from the rest because she uses Mac. Most of the advert is her walking and being acknowledged by other people. We used some shots of Karina acting Natural and her miming ‘Mac’. One of our most interesting shots we combined was the face collage of different peoples faces cut out and formed into one like in the opening credits to ‘Ugly Betty’. This was show that Mac is a very diverse brand that specializes in makeup for all skin types. We used a storyboard to show what shots we would use and a clear description for them. This helped to speed up the filming process so that we didn’t have to keep improvising on footage.

I think that the filming went very well because we already had locations and a basic story line in mind. It was interesting to see what kind of shots we were able to come up with and what shots would work and how stable we could make them. We were able to film all of our footage in a day and a half so it left us loads of time to edit our footage. I enjoyed working with a Canon DSR because I enjoy photography and filming and have always wanted to own a Canon or a Nikon Camera. I was able to teach myself how to adjust the settings and play around with the focus.

Our group consisted of Tashayna, Karina, Aminah and myself. So I was able to work with people I already know and get to know someone new. We all worked well as a team and all contributed to the project.

I’m Most pleased with the editing because I was able to learn a new skill which most people in the class didn’t know how to do. I was able to isolate Karina and make her another colour whilst the background was black and white using Colour Correction. This effect helped put the story across of her being different from the rest. The original idea was for colour to track her as she walked down the road to show that she brought colour and life to the scene because of her make up. But because it was too difficult to find instead we had to compromise and look on YouTube for Final Cut Pro Editing Tutorials to find something similar.

Mac doesn’t advertise their products using adverts. So it was a bit difficult to find ideas. So we had to start from scratch and think what would work for a Mac advert. We had to think about different aspects like if it was suppose to be elegant, glamorous, urban, basic etc. Most but not all parts of the advert looked professional. The similarities were that we were able to have clean and stable shots, the music corresponded well to the advert, we had one main character & we had the Mac logo at the end that worked well with the black backdrop. The differences were that we had a lot of different things going on in the advert compared to a professional one, which was a big disadvantage, & we didn’t use a voice over.

The persuasive techniques we used were Celebrity endorsement, advertising beautiful women so men and women could admire them. We made sure our main character looked very natural so it would look realistic. This would draw a thin line between the advert and the audience watching so that they could that anyone can look like that.

To be honest I would like to think that our advert would sell successfully, but the advert still has things to improve on. Such as; promoting the product more (visually), having a simple story line & to have a voice over to explain the product.

The target audience was for women of all colour from ages between a teenager and an adult. Usually make up adverts are targeted to women. But our advert illustrated that Mac makeup is obviously used by teenagers too by using a teenager and advertising bright colour lipsticks such as pink, which is a young, vibrant, girly colour.

Most of the feedback we got was that we had very good and creative shots and interesting editing techniques. And how it the target audience was clear. The Constructive criticism we were familiar with before we received the feedback such as there was too much going on in the advert, it would have been better with a voice over and how the music was cut off suddenly at the end. However I was pleased with all the positive feedback we received from everyone so our group did a good job.
I weren’t happy with how the roles were distributed in the group. Half of the members in the group did a lot less than myself and one other. I think the advert would have worked much better if we all contributed equally. We had some technical difficulties and re shooting footage because it wasn’t good enough and how we kept changing ideas in our advert, which made the story line ‘cluttered’.

Next time we would use a more simple story line to improve our advert, stick to one music track, assign roles more accurately so that everyone in the group is doing something at all times, pick who’s better at doing what so that each task is performed at a good standard and for it not to be repeated and to add clearer transitions for the footage and the music.

Mind Map and Evaluation

Minds Maps

Making a mind map is a great way to organise your thoughts more productively. By using mind maps you can quickly identify and understand the structure of a subject. You can record additional facts contained in normal notes. Mind maps help store information in a format that your mind finds easy to recap and review. Mind maps are more compact because of its two dimensional format, it’s much more resourceful than conventional notes. They usually take up to one page. This brainstorm helps generate new ideas; you can easily interrupt the mind map structure if you find out more information. Mind Maps can be used to breakdown large sources of information into manageable chunks so you can plan more effectively without getting overwhelmed. They show the relative importance of individual points and how points relate to each other.

Evaluation

By presenting my research of mind maps I was able to give my partner and also myself insightful information that would easy to review in the future without my notes.  The information found on mindtools.com made me aware of all the key points and its benefits to the user. I broke down the original information on the site and summarised it which tested my skills to see if i was able to categorise all the points correctly. The visual structure of the Mind map makes it easy for the viewer and myself  which individual points are important by either the size or colour and how the points relate to each other  whether that be with indicating arrows or lines.
According o my partner I successfully presented good communication, clear vocal and projected presentation and a clear understanding of my information. I could improve my presentation by being more confident and more engaging. And to also ensure the listener understands by using more eye contact and comfortable gestures to make myself and the listener at ease.

Glossary Terms

GLOSSARY
Video Formats
Mov- MOV video file is common multimedia format often used for saving movies and other video file and also uses a proprietary compression algorithm developed by Apple. Compatible with both Macintosh and Windows platforms. The format specifies a multimedia container file that contains one or more tracks, each of which stores a particular type of data: audio, video, effects, or text

Avi ( Audio Video Interleave ) - is a multimedia container format introduced by Microsoft. AVI files can contain both audio and video data in a file container that allows synchronous audio-with-video playback. Like the dvd video format, AVI files support multiple streaming audio and video, although these features are seldom used.

Streaming
Streaming is multimedia that is constantly received by and presented to an end user while being delivered by a streaming provider. The distinction is usually applied to media  that are distributed over telecommunications networks.
- Inherently streaming : radio , television
- Inherently Non streaming : books, video cassettes, cds.
Live streaming means taking the media and broadcasting it live over the internet. The media content can be viewed by end users live. This involves an encoder to digitize the content in order either an end user or delivery network to distribute and deliver the content

File Compression
File Compression- is used to send one file from one computer to another over a connection that has limited bandwidth. The file gets compressed which basically means making it smaller so that the sending of the file is faster. However when compressing a file and sending it to another computer that computer has to have a program that will decompress the file so it can be returned to normal and used

Aspect Ratios
The aspect ratio of an image is the ratio of its height expressed as 2 numbers separated by a colon
Eg. 16:9 – 16 inches wide and 9 inches high

Frame Rates
Is the frequency rate at which an imaging device produces unique consecutive images called frames. Usually Used in computer graphics, video cameras, film cameras and motion capture systems.

Legal and Ethical Sheet

Legal and Ethical

What does ‘copyright,’ mean?
Copyright is a legal concept, enacted by governments, giving the creator of an original work of authorship exclusive rights to control its distribution for a certain time period, after which the work enters the public domain.

Give three examples of different things which you might include in your video and could be subject to copyright:
-       Videos
-       Downloading Music
-       Pictures

List two websites that give copyright free music:
freeplaymusic.com/
List a website where you can find free or low fee photographs:
http://stockvault.net/

Explain what a location release form and why is it needed for filming?
Location agreements allow you to not only film the place but also grant you the right to rehearse and take stills for publicity. In your film, you may want to call the location a different name, and your agreement should give you the right to do so. The agreement should give you the right to incorporate scenes filmed at the location in your film and the right to exploit the film in any medium throughout the world. The design team will also require the right to make additions and alterations in and to the premises (interior and exterior) and the location manager will often have to ensure that the location will be put back in the condition that it was found.

What is a contributor release form and why is it required?
The contributor's release form gives you the right to use a performer's contribution in your film. There are many variations for paid and unpaid contributions.

Review Report

Task 6

In the first week we did course induction which helped us introduce ourselves and get to know other members of our new class, along with orientation which made us more aware of the places we could go if we needed help or just for general use. Our tutor also introduced the video profile project which we were very eager to start. We set a target to complete the orientation around building which was easy to complete because we had the help of our peers and our tutor so it was a team effort. Our target was to set up our Blog on BlogSpot which I enjoyed because it felt like I was joining a social networking site like Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr. I like designing pages and presenting them in my own style, something as simple as using a Chris Brown background, this encouraged me to work hard and to complete my first blog of viral marketing and user generated videos. In week 2 I successfully planned my filming, learnt how to use different camera equipment, differentiated various existing video profiles and make a start on my script. The strategies I used were working around my action plan which made me more determined to complete all the action points along with the week’s target. If I’m not distracted I am able to work hard, fast and efficiently so most of the time I will be able to finish my work before the end of the lesson which gives me more time to do something else. This generally happened with most tasks in the lesson before the filming and editing commenced. In week 4 our target was to learn how to edit our videos, adding music, images etc and uploading our footage to our blogs. I enjoyed this a lot because I’m very interested in editing so I was able to learn how to do so on a new software Final Cut Pro which was generally new to me because in school we never really used Mac’s unless you did music tech. I also made myself more familiar to the Mac and my blog. My determination to learn new things helped me meet these targets and to my benefit to learn and explore something I enjoy.
I’ve learnt that I work better independently because this way I can get things done faster and able to teach myself new things. I’m able to work with my own ideas and put them across in my work and video. I’ve improved on meeting deadlines and this is because of the log book and determination to the course. Because I enjoy this course I will produce better results and feel more comfortable in the class. I enjoy learning activities such as analysing videos which we did with the Viral Marketing videos and User generated videos, I was able to focus on detail and make my eyes aware of things that you wouldn’t always see if you watched it on the TV.
I’ve learnt a few things about myself, that during the course of 6 weeks I have become more hardworking and comfortable in the course. What motivates me is my ability to produce good work which I have done so in the lessons as well as producing a video profile which I’m proud of. Was also motivates me is my interest in creative media which makes tasks and projects more enjoyable and work more efficiently because I can learn and pick up new skills that could help me in the future to fulfil my career.
In the future I will definitely use a timetable to structure my time keeping so that things can get done at home as well as college and to give myself timeslots in which I could complete work outside of college. I will dedicate my time more to college work and to sleep less so that I can work for a longer amount of time.

Task 5

Within the weeks where I produce my Video Profile, I will use a structured timetable to motivate me to make my college work my main priority. The log book that we have been given to us has and will be a good way to review my progress and to make sure that I am up to date with my work along with future targets to complete. So that I don’t become more distracted I will try my best to complete all of my work in Lessons because I work better in a Classroom , however if I have been set work to complete at home then I will make sure that the minute I get home I will make a start of the work to avoid distractions. This would work better for me because if I come and leave my work for later that gives me more time to find something else to do that can keep me distracted and wanting to postpone when I  do the work. The action plans in the Induction Log book give me set targets to complete along with dates to review it by. This will help plan my time more effectively because it tells me exactly what I have to do and actions points to help me achieve them.
If I need additional help I will turn to my Tutor, teachers or peers in my class. The resources that are available to me in the college are Mac computers for example editing on Final Cut Pro, Window computers to complete essays, evaluations, tasks that can be completed on documents, Technicians; where I can borrow camera equipment for my assignments and help and advice from Tutors.
I will use my strengths to make structuring my time easier. Being a hard worker will benefit me because I will be able to complete tasks to a good standard, being sociable will give me the confidence to ask for help when needed and to help others also, being reliable makes it easier to complete set targets because I rely on myself to finish work on the deadline. If I structure my time well I could easily work and improve on my weaknesses such as meeting deadlines which can be supported by my action plans and reviews to ensure I complete my work on time and know exactly what I’m  doing so that it makes it easier to meet deadlines.

Shooting Script

·       The audio in italics are the script I didn’t use in my video profile

Picture
Hi My name is Chenai, Im 17 , I currently go to City of Westminster where I do new media

I’m a loud and sociable person, I go out a lot , I party . I like to have fun

I’ve never had a job before but I’d like to start with Work experience in a field involving Filming and Photography.

I’ve done 2 work experiences; one in New Look Brent Cross when I was 15 and at a Photography studio – Vanity Studios where I assisted the photographers and the manager. This was in March – the period where I wasn’t in college so I made sure my gap year was very productive

I also involved myself in dance courses to keep me active
Medium shot of me talking

Montage Shots of mostly me and other people in my adolescence

I study at City of Westminster College where I take a Btec in Creative Media Production (New Media)-

I picked this course because I’m very interested in Photography, Filming & Editing.

It all started in Gcse English where we would do Media & Film studies related activities which teachers would I say I was very good at film analysis. Photography was just something I became good at in a very short time and editing I picked up quite quickly. A trait of mine is that I’m a perfectionist , so I like everything looking perfect and accurate and always focusing on detail , so editing photos seemed like the perfect opportunity to show my interest in both photography and editing.

-        Various Shots of Inside and outside the College.
-        Sequential Shooting (5 shots)

-        Montage shots of my photography

-        Over the shoulder shot of me working on a Mac

I used to go to Richmond College last year where I did Law, Sociology, English Literature & Language and Dance A levels. Unfortunately I had to stop going but I’m making sure that this year in City of Westminster I buckle down and get merits and distinctions in all my units especially because Creative Media is the career path I’d wish to follow.

A big benefit is that I live right by the College.

-        Picture of the outside of Richmond College

-        Footage of me taking pictures of two other people in a room that looks like a studio
I used to be a dancer. Took dance lessons, did both a level and gcse dance in contemporary ballet, but soon lost interest because I became more caught up in exams.
-        Video clips of contemporary dancers in So you think you can dance to illustrate the type of dance I learnt and was interested in

I love Drum & Bass , Baseline , Dubstep & Rnb .

My Favourite artists are Example, J Cole , Borgore , Chris Brown & Magnetic Man

I eat a LOT but I am a very picky eater. I don’t like trying new things and I don’t eat a wide range of foods.

I Dance

I have a very Retro & Vintage dress sense

-        Titles illustrating what music i like

-        Voice Over –Loadstar Space Between playing faintly in the background and then gradually getting louder – also showing a clip from the video

-        Clips from my favourite artists videos (audio- explaining who i like)

I’m inspired by Sean Cameraman who is a young photographer, who has successfully built up his name and gained a big reputation with UK artists, directors and aspiring models. His work is mainly based on young female models and UK singers such as Belle Amie (who were on Xfactor), Princess Nyah (Funky house singer)

In the future I hope to work in anything involving a Camera and hopefully go to a university that specializes in Media & Arts

-        A shots of him with a camera, his company logo and him taking pictures of other people

-        Clip of the video Girls up by Belle Amie which shows Sean Cameraman taking pictures in the video

-        Footage of me taking pictures of other people
Wish me luck
