In Camera Editing exercise

In camera editing is shooting various shots without editing in one take. This takes up a lot of planning because you can only shoot eat shot in one take and some shots can turn out being very long.

Editing is the process of selecting different shots and joining them together to create a Story. Eliptical editing is to fill in the gaps that’s are not obvious to the audience e.g showing the girl lying on the floor waking up to inform us that she was sleeping without showing us she was sleeping.The long shot in 'Introduction to Editing video is used in this shot to show her surroundings and that she is alone.

Non Diagetic sounds is music/sounds in the background that isn’t playing where she is . so only the audience can hear it

• How do we know she is bending down to pick up the ring? (what shots are used and why?)

 - Her bending down and then cutting it to a shot of the ring. And then her reaching towards it

Overhead establishing shots set out the space where the action takes place. Shot-Reverse-Shots are cutting back and forth between shots (conversation – 2 people).

• What is Eye-line matching?

An example a man looking off screen down and the other man looking off screen and up to show that they are looking at eachother

• Why do we cut to the other members of the group?

To show their responses and reactions to the plan and to each other

• What is a wipe?

Trendy Hip style of the hustle known as the misenscene

Slick transition to show a new location, moving the action to a different location and time

• What is the effect of using quick cuts?

The quick cuts show that they have to work quickly, to create a fast rhythm , to keep the story moving along and the audience on the toes

• How can editing build tension and pace?

The number of shots and different camera shots and angle, timing

• What is crosscutting?

Crosscutting back and forth from shots

• What are reaction shots?

Showing the reaction of a character

• What is seamless editing?

Viewers not aware of the editing (unobvious)

The editing’s gets carried away along through the scene

• What is a jump cut?

The same scene that gets cut up. This can look awkward and possibly a mistake but that can also be effect depending on the purpose of the shots

• What is a flash back and what does it achieve?

A flashback can sometimes be used with a transition to show the audience that the character is having a ‘flashback’. This is when someone reminisces of a past event/key moment in their life that got them to where they are today.

e.g. The Butterfly effect

• How can editing be used poetically?

Putting two images to make sense. It doesn’t need to have the intention make sense to the audience. It can be open for interpretation
